Chapter 11 - THE FINAL MESSAGE

"I'm so sorry I didn't tell you, Julian," Rachel’s recorded voice echoed in the small vault room.

On the screen, she wiped a tear from her cheek.

"I knew how much the merger meant to you. I knew Arthur Wynn was dangerous. I wanted to have undeniable proof before I blew up our lives."

Julian touched the screen, his fingertips tracing the outline of his wife's face.

"I forgive you," he whispered, even though she couldn't hear him.

"Victor," Rachel said, looking directly into the camera. "If you're there, stop fighting with Julian. He is a good man. Be a brother to him. Theo needs you both."

Victor let out a rough laugh, wiping his eyes. "Always bossing me around, Rach."

"And Alma," Rachel smiled, her eyes softening.

I gasped.

"I know you're watching, Alma," Rachel said. "Because I know Julian wouldn't do this without you. Thank you. Thank you for loving my boy when I couldn't be there. Thank you for protecting my husband. You are the mother I always wished I had."

Tears streamed down my face. I couldn't speak.

"Inside the envelope," Rachel continued, her tone becoming more serious, "is the original deed to the lake house in Maine. I never transferred it to the trust. It’s solely in my name."

Julian frowned, reaching for the manila envelope.

"Celeste doesn't know about it," Rachel said. "I left it entirely to Theo. But the stipulations state that it cannot be sold until he is twenty-five. I want him to have a place that is entirely his. A place where the Wynn family can never touch him."

Julian opened the envelope. The deed was there, legally binding and untouched by the chaos of the past eighteen months.

Rachel took a deep breath on the screen.

"Julian. Look at me."

Julian stared at the screen, tears in his eyes.

"You have mourned me long enough," Rachel told him, her voice filled with fierce love. "Do not let my death be the end of your life. Raise our son. Build your company. And when you are ready... find someone who loves you the way I did. Be happy, Julian. I give you permission to let me go."

The screen went black.

The video ended.

Silence filled the small room, thick with closure and a profound, heartbreaking peace.

Julian stood perfectly still for a long moment. Then, he gently placed the tablet back into the metal box.

He didn't close it immediately. He looked at Victor.

"She always had to have the last word," Julian smiled through his tears.

Victor chuckled softly. "Always."

Julian looked at me. "Are you okay, Alma?"

I wiped my face with a handkerchief. "I'm fine, Julian. Better than fine."

He closed the lid of the safety deposit box. The heavy metal sound finalized the chapter of Rachel's death.

"Let's go home," Julian said. "Theo is waiting."
