Chapter 9 - [THE FINAL RECKONING]

(The Happy Ending Chapter)

The threat from New York hovered in the air, but Nico refused to let fear dictate the night.

"Let them come," Nico said firmly, slipping his phone into his pocket. "The Valenti family is finally clean. We have nothing to hide anymore."

He turned his attention back to my mother, offering her a warm, respectful smile.

"Mrs. Collins, your mortgage is paid off. The bank received the wire transfer an hour ago."

My mother gasped, covering her mouth. "Mr. Valenti... I can't accept—"

"You can, and you will," Nico insisted gently. "Your daughter saved my brother's dignity, exposed a traitor in my family, and trapped our enemies in my study. It's the least I can do."

Gabriel wheeled forward, holding a small velvet box.

He handed it to me.

"Harper. I want you to have this."

I opened it slowly.

Inside was a stunning, delicate silver necklace with a small sapphire pendant.

"Gabriel, this is beautiful."

"It belonged to my mother," Gabriel said softly. "She told me to give it to the woman who showed true loyalty to our family. I think she'd be proud it's yours."

Tears filled my eyes.

For the first time since my father died, I didn't feel the crushing weight of poverty or the fear of tomorrow. I felt seen. I felt valued.

Nico stepped closer, his dark eyes locking onto mine.

"Harper, you don't work for me anymore. You're done wearing that uniform."

Panic fluttered in my chest. "You're firing me?"

Nico laughed, a rich, deep sound that filled the room.

"I'm promoting you. To partner. In the business, and... if you'll let me... in life."

He reached for my hand, his strong fingers intertwining with mine.

The electricity between us was undeniable.

I looked at my mother, who was beaming. I looked at Gabriel, who gave me a thumbs-up.

"I'd like that, Nico," I whispered.

He pulled me in, his lips meeting mine in a kiss that promised safety, passion, and a future.

The secrets were exposed.

Gabriel had his dignity back.

My family was safe.

And I had finally found my home.
