Chapter 10 - THE LETTER OF THE OLD DEBT

The study went deathly silent.
I stared at the faded ink on the parchment, the words blurring as my hands began to shake.
The man you must marry... is Dante Falcone.
"A blood pact?" I whispered, looking up at Luca.
Luca's face was a mask of cold, terrifying fury. He snatched the letter from my hand, reading the words himself as if hoping I had hallucinated them.
"The Falcone family," Luca growled, crushing the parchment in his fist. "They are the oldest, most ruthless syndicate in Sicily. They don't deal in money. They deal in legacy. My father traded a marriage to secure his territory in America."
"He sold me," I breathed, the horrific betrayal tearing through the love I had just begun to feel for the father I never knew.
"No, Olivia," Luca said fiercely, grabbing my shoulders. "He thought he was protecting us. Back then, alliances were the only way to survive. But it doesn't matter. You are not a piece of property. You are a Moretti. I will burn this city to the ground before I let a Sicilian Don take my sister."
Before I could answer, the heavy study doors swung open.
Daniel stood in the doorway, his arm still in a sling from Vanessa's gunshot. He looked pale.
"Boss," Daniel said, his voice unusually tight. "We have a problem."
"What?" Luca snapped.
"A motorcade just pulled up to the front gates. Five black SUVs. Armored."
Luca stepped in front of me instinctively. "Who is it?"
"They’re flying the Falcone crest on the lead car," Daniel swallowed hard. "Dante Falcone is here."
My stomach plummeted into my shoes.
They knew. The moment the truth of my bloodline was exposed, the Falcone family had crossed an ocean to collect their debt.
"Lock down the estate," Luca ordered, drawing his weapon. "Nobody gets through those gates."
"Luca, wait," I said, grabbing his arm. "If you fight them, they'll start a war. We just got out of one. Leo is outside! Sam is outside!"
Luca froze, the mention of his nephew and my brother piercing his rage.
"Let him in," I said, my voice trembling but resolute. "We hear what he has to say. On our terms."
Luca stared at me for a long moment, admiring the sudden steel in my spine. He nodded once to Daniel.
Ten minutes later, the grand living room was transformed into a tense negotiation ground. Armed guards stood at every entrance.
The double doors opened.
Dante Falcone walked into the room.
He was incredibly young for a mob boss, perhaps thirty. He wore a flawless, tailored Italian suit. His dark hair was slicked back, and his eyes were the color of obsidian—cold, sharp, and entirely arrogant.
He wasn't flanked by guards. He walked in alone, projecting absolute, untouchable power.
"Luca Moretti," Dante smiled, a smooth, heavily accented purr. "It has been a long time."
"Not long enough, Dante," Luca replied coldly, not offering his hand.
Dante chuckled, entirely unbothered. He turned his dark gaze toward me.
His eyes raked over me, calculating, assessing. He smiled.
"And you must be Olivia," Dante murmured, stepping closer. "Antonio kept you hidden well. But a diamond always catches the light eventually."
"I am not marrying you," I said flatly, keeping my chin high.
Dante didn't flinch. He just laughed softly.
"American women," Dante sighed, shaking his head. "Always so dramatic. You misunderstand the situation, mia bella. This isn't a proposal. It is a collection."
He looked back at Luca.
"The pact was sealed in blood, Luca. If you refuse to honor your father's word, the truce between Sicily and America is broken. My family will seize your ports, slaughter your remaining captains, and burn this beautiful house to ash."
"I don't have captains anymore," Luca challenged, stepping into Dante's space. "I dismantled the syndicate. I am a legitimate businessman. If you touch my family, you deal with the FBI."
Dante’s arrogant smile widened into a predatory grin.
"Legitimate?" Dante mocked gently. "How quaint. But you see, Luca, I don't care about your businesses. I care about leverage."
Dante reached into his tailored jacket and pulled out a cell phone.
He tossed it onto the coffee table.
"Your brother, Sam, is a very talented mechanic," Dante said casually. "He was test-driving one of your vintage Ferraris ten minutes ago. Beautiful car."
My heart stopped.
"What did you do to him?" I screamed, lunging forward.
Luca caught me, holding me back as his own fury erupted.
"If you touched him, Dante, you won't leave this room," Luca roared.
"I haven't touched him," Dante promised smoothly. "But my men intercepted the car. Sam is currently sitting in the back of one of my SUVs outside your gate. He is perfectly safe."
Dante picked a piece of lint off his sleeve.

"But if you do not agree to honor the marriage pact, Olivia... my men have orders to put a bullet in his head."
