Chapter 9 - DAWN

Six months later.

The spring sun streamed through the massive floor-to-ceiling windows of the West Wing executive suite.

Olivia Carter stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the collar of her sharp, navy blue blazer. She checked her watch—a beautiful silver piece Gabriel had gifted her for Christmas. 8:00 a.m.

"Lily! You're going to miss the bus!" Olivia called out.

Footsteps thundered down the hallway. Lily sprinted into the room, wearing her new private school uniform, her backpack slung over one shoulder. Trotting happily at her heels was a clumsy, massive-pawed black Cane Corso puppy named Shadow.

"I'm ready!" Lily beamed.

Olivia kissed her forehead. "Do you have your lunch? Your homework?"

"Yes, Mom." Lily rolled her eyes playfully. "Shadow ate my math worksheet yesterday, but Mr. Gabriel said it was a 'valid tactical maneuver' and wrote my teacher a note."

Olivia laughed, shaking her head. Gabriel had softened entirely since the night of the lockdown. The removal of his aunt's toxic shadow and Marcus's betrayal had allowed him to finally grieve his past and embrace the future. He treated Lily like a niece, often indulging her and her new puppy far more than a billionaire should.

They walked downstairs together. The estate was humming with quiet, efficient activity. The staff greeted Olivia with genuine respect—not just because of her title, but because everyone knew the story of the maid who outsmarted the devil.

At the front doors, Gabriel was standing with Matteo. They were reviewing a tablet, sipping coffee. Gabriel wore a tailored suit, looking healthy and rested.

"Good morning, Mrs. Carter," Gabriel said, looking up with a smile.

"Good morning, Gabriel," Olivia replied. They had dropped the formalities months ago.

"Car's waiting, Lily," Matteo said, giving the little girl a high-five. "Have a good day at school."

"Bye Matteo! Bye Mr. Gabriel!" Lily ran out the doors, Shadow barking happily as he chased her to the waiting SUV.

Olivia watched her daughter go, feeling a profound sense of peace. Lily was safe. She was loved. She belonged here.

Gabriel stepped up beside Olivia, watching the car pull away down the winding driveway. The heavy steel gates opened smoothly, bathed in the morning light.

"You know," Gabriel said quietly. "I had the security team sweep the guest rooms again yesterday."

Olivia raised an eyebrow, looking at him. "And?"

Gabriel smiled, taking a sip of his coffee. "Not a single bug. Just clean, empty vents."

"Good," Olivia said, adjusting her blazer with a confident smile. "Because I really hate dust."

They stood together on the steps, the dark shadows of the past finally banished, as a new day began in the house of Gabriel Duca.
