Chapter 11 - THE SHADOW IN THE ALPS

The grocery store faded away.
“What does that mean?” I demanded, abandoning my cart and walking fast toward the exit.
“I don't know,” Daniel said. “But there’s a photograph included.”
“Of what?”
“Of my father. The real Gabriel. It was taken yesterday. In front of a café in Geneva.”
I stopped dead in the parking lot.
“Daniel, that’s impossible. The real Gabriel died on the operating table twenty years ago. Julian confirmed it. Catherine confirmed it.”
“Catherine lied about everything else,” Daniel pointed out grimly.
Answer one. Open two.
If the real Gabriel was alive, who had been orchestrating things from the shadows this whole time?
“Have you told Sofia?” I asked.
“No. And I’m not going to. She finally has peace, Rachel. She’s sleeping through the night. I won't let this destroy her again.”
“Then what are you going to do?”
“I’m going to Geneva.”
“Daniel, no. It’s a trap.”
“I have to know, Rachel. I have to know if my real father is alive.”
I unlocked my car, my mind racing.
“You can't go alone, Daniel. If Pierce’s network survived, if Catherine has people on the outside…”
“I’m not alone,” Daniel said.
A new voice came over the line.
A gruff, familiar voice.
“Don't worry, Nurse Cooper. I’ve got his back.”
I gasped. “Thomas?”
May you like
“I owe the kid,” Thomas said flatly. “And I owe you for the headache.”
He had survived the lamp. And apparently, he had switched sides.
