Chapter 8 - THE HEIRLOOM IN THE GENEVA VAULT

The private jet tore through the night sky over the Atlantic Ocean.

Inside the cabin, the tension was suffocating. I sat across from Sofia, who held Leo tightly against her side. The little boy was exhausted, finally sleeping despite the turbulence.

Luca sat near the window, staring into the darkness. Michael sat beside him, reviewing the floor plans of the Geneva bank.

We had left Rose recovering in Chicago under the protection of fifty heavily armed men and a private trauma surgeon I trusted implicitly. Grace stayed behind to coordinate the family’s legitimate businesses and prepare the lawyers for the fallout.

But Sofia had refused to stay behind.

"They kept me in a cage for seven years," she had told Luca at the airstrip, her voice shaking but unbreakable. "If you are tearing down their empire, I want to watch it burn."

And because Leo’s biometric scan was the only key to the vault, I had to come along. You don't take a traumatized six-year-old child into an international corporate warzone without a medical professional to ensure his heart rate and stress levels don't push him into shock.

At 9:00 AM local time, we landed in Switzerland.

The Zurich Trust Bank was a fortress of glass and steel, entirely disconnected from the picturesque mountains surrounding it. It catered to billionaires, oligarchs, and phantoms.

Luca walked through the pristine glass doors looking like a king returning to reclaim his throne. Michael flanked him, a silent executioner. Sofia, Leo, and I walked securely between them.

The bank manager, a pale, nervous man in an immaculate suit, met us in the private lobby.

"Mr. DeSantis," the manager said smoothly, though his eyes darted toward the child. "We were not expecting you."

"I don't make appointments," Luca said coldly. "Vault 704."

The manager swallowed hard. "Of course. But the biometric lock..."

"I have the key," Luca interrupted, placing a protective hand on Leo's small shoulder.

We were escorted down a sleek elevator that dropped far beneath the city streets. The vault room was massive, lined with thousands of stainless steel boxes.

We stopped in front of Vault 704.

"Place the child's hand on the scanner," the manager instructed, stepping back nervously.

Sofia knelt down. "It's okay, baby," she whispered, kissing Leo's forehead. "Just like touching an iPad."

Leo bravely reached out and placed his small hand on the glowing blue glass.

The machine hummed. A green light flashed.

Biometric Match: Anthony DeSantis Bloodline.

The heavy steel door clicked open.

Luca pulled the metal box out and placed it on the viewing table. He opened the lid.

Inside wasn't a mountain of cash or gold bars.

It was a single, leather-bound ledger. And resting on top of it was a heavy gold ring—the original DeSantis family heirloom, lost for thirty years.

Luca picked up the ring, slipping it onto his finger. It fit perfectly.

Then he opened the ledger.

I looked over his shoulder.

The pages were filled with thousands of names. Dates. Dosages.

"My God," I whispered.

It was the complete clinical history of the blue pill. But it wasn't just a memory-inhibitor. The final column on every page listed the ultimate outcome for the patients.

Cardiac failure. Stroke. Aneurysm.

"It's a murder weapon," Sofia gasped, reading the names. "The Board wasn't just stealing companies. They were assassinating people who wouldn't comply, making it look like natural aging and dementia."

Luca’s jaw tightened. "And my father documented every single one of them. He was their insurance policy."

"Mr. DeSantis," a voice echoed from the vault entrance.

We spun around.

Standing in the doorway, blocking our only exit, was Arthur Vance. The CEO of Apex Pharmaceuticals. His nose was heavily bandaged from where Luca had broken it in the woods, and he looked furious.

Behind him stood ten Swiss tactical police officers, heavily armed and aiming their weapons directly at us.

"You really thought I wouldn't track a private jet leaving Chicago?" Arthur sneered. "This is Switzerland, Luca. Your mafia thugs have no jurisdiction here. But I own the politicians."

Arthur held out his hand. "Give me the ledger. And I will allow the women and the child to leave."

Luca closed the box. He looked at the armed police, then at Arthur.

"You're a businessman, Arthur," Luca said calmly. "Let's make a trade."

Arthur laughed. "You have nothing to trade, Luca. I have the guns."

"I have the ring," Luca said, raising his hand, showing the heavy gold family heirloom.

Arthur’s eyes narrowed. "I don't care about your jewelry."

"You should," Luca said, his voice dropping to a deadly whisper. "Because my father didn't just hide a ledger in this vault. He hid the detonator."

Luca twisted the crest on the gold ring.

A sharp, high-pitched electronic whine instantly began echoing from inside the steel walls of the vault.

Arthur’s face went chalk white. "What did you do?"

"My father rigged this entire vault with C4 thirty years ago," Luca said, his eyes burning with absolute madness. "If the Board ever tried to take his insurance policy... he made sure the bank would vaporize. We have exactly sixty seconds before this mountain collapses on top of us."

The Swiss police officers immediately panicked, lowering their weapons and looking at the ceiling as the electronic whine grew louder.

"You're bluffing!" Arthur screamed. "You wouldn't kill your own family!"

Luca smiled. A cold, terrifying mobster's smile.

May you like

"Try me."
